Western Ridge Grenache Carignan
Wine
Elderton Western Ridge Grenache Carignan is typically 80% Grenache and 20% Carignan sourced from the estate Greenock vineyard, perched at 300 metres on the Barossa's western ridge.
The Grenache was planted in 1969 and the Carignan in 1915. The vineyard was purchased by the Elderton family in 2010. The vines grow in free draining, ironstone rich soils.
Both varieties are crushed together. The must is cool fermented in open top concrete tanks. The wine then matures in seasoned French oak for up to one year prior to bottling.
Light red, Elderton Western Ridge Grenache Carignan has rich red berry flavours, hints of spice and a sharp acidity. Cellaring potential is seven years.
